Planetarium

The Planetarium at the University of Montana helps thousands of young learners, UM students and community members explore science every year. Under the dome, visitors can see planets, stars and scientific concepts come to life. Our facility makes learning about the universe more engaging and easier to understand. Our goal is simple: help every visitor discover something new and see that our planetarium is for everyone.

Students are at the heart of our work. The new Planetarium Presenter Certificate trains students to share science with others, design shows, operate the planetarium and connect with audiences. These experiences build valuable skills they can carry into future careers.

To keep these programs strong, our most vital need is a new planetarium projector and updated computers and software to power the dome. While currently operating with a loaned projector, it is not a long-term solution. These upgrades will ensure a reliable experience for guests and keep the wonders of the planetarium accessible to our community for years to come.
